Book Writing and Borud Consulting: The Calling of Dr. Loren Borud

From Loren Borud

Needless to say, plastic surgery is Dr. Loren Borud’s passion. His resume is thick with medical theory and practice, academic teaching, private practice, and field research. He has counted two decades of experience, 30 scientific publications, eight book chapters, and numerous conferences, lectures, papers, and trainings.

Even now as he takes a break from practice, he wields his pen and shapes other thoughts for the love of plastic surgery and the people who would benefit from it.

His most recent endeavor has been to single-handedly tackle the economics of plastic surgery in the book, Plastikonomics: What I Learned as a Harvard Plastic Surgeon. There he discusses the economic factors that drive and motivate plastic surgeons inside and outside the practice. The strongest points of Dr. Loren Borud’s book strip the readers, layman and professional alike, of the misconceptions about plastic surgeons and their patients, the government’s utopian healthcare, and the mass-media advertisement of mediocre practitioners.

From Loren Borud

Another avenue for his passion and expertise is his self-established consulting firm, Borud Consulting. He shares both his scientific and entrepreneurial knowledge to potential patients of aesthetic surgery and the marketers of surgical procedure and products. Through it he wants to raise awareness about the various planes of the field that only an insider clearly perceives.

Dr. Loren Borud and the Value of Body Contouring Surgery

From Loren Borud

Before he went on to become a premier consultant in medical marketing and private equity, Dr. Loren Borud was and still is an internationally recognized name in body contouring, a procedure performed to shape the body after massive weight loss. Body contouring is especially important as it will return the skin’s tautness and give the body a slimmer figure.

Patients who possess a great deal of loose skin and have lost soft tissue firmness are some of the prime candidates for Body Contouring Surgery. Skin might stretch and become loose after a patient either loses great amounts of weight, had surgery, or even had childbirth. Dr. Loren Borud’s extensive experience and fine-tuned techniques have allowed patients to possess a slimmer and more attractive outline.

From Loren Borud

There are many different types of this surgery, from bicep and tricep implants, to body fat transfer and tummy tucks. Most patients of contouring have work done at the abdominal area, where it is likeliest to have excess loose skin. The incisions are usually made under the underwear line and are very easily tolerable.

Borud’s contribution to the Body Contouring Surgery field has been considerable. It was he who pioneered the aesthetic analysis of the superior gluteal artery perforator flap after a patient accrues massive weight loss. Because of this achievement, many other cosmetic surgeons were able to better restore the projection and definition of contours.

Today, Dr. Loren Borud uses his decades of experience in surgical practice in his consultancy firm. A comprehensive look at his new endeavor may be read at www.Borud.com.

Plastikonomics: What Dr. Loren Borud has Learned as a Harvard Plastic Surgeon

From Loren Borud

In today’s society where physical appearance is a big factor in almost all aspects of life, it is not surprising that cosmetic surgery has taken celebrity circles and high societies, as well as middle class consciousness by storm. Internationally renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Loren Borud writes about this medical and social phenomenon, its economic impact to the country and abroad, and its meaning to his life as a plastic surgeon, in his bold new book Plastikonomics: What I Learned as a Harvard Plastic Surgeon.

In Plastikonomics, Dr. Borud takes the readers behind the scenes of the economic factors that drive plastic surgeons to choose their profession. He lets readers take a first person view of the ins and outs, ups and downs of plastic surgeons’ lives, how they work, what makes them tick, and how their profession rapidly changes in response to evolving culture and government.

Drawing from his 20-year experience as a surgeon, of which eight were spent in Harvard Medical School, he discusses why many intelligent men and women in the country choose the field of surgery. He undertakes the gravity of this choice detailing the grueling training and education required by this career. Dr. Loren Borud then quantifies the fiscal impact of loan debt and opportunity cost to explain why such a choice may seem unjustifiable and discouraging in today’s climate of malpractice litigation and decreasing financial gain.

Dr. Loren Borud Discusses Plastic Surgery Trends: Non- Surgical Procedures

Plastic surgery continues to change the face of the medical industry, and with the innovations in aesthetic and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Loren Borud believes that the industry will continue to have new trends. New procedures have been introduced, and non-invasive procedures are particularly becoming more and more favored by doctors and patients alike.

From Loren Borud

Getting plastic surgery is usually done to improve one’s appearance or to correct physical deformities. And what better way to achieve this than by non-surgical techniques? Non-surgical procedures do not require prolonged recovery periods unlike surgical procedures, giving patients ease and convenience while achieving the desired results, at a fairly cheaper rate.

Dr. Loren Borud became well-known for body contouring surgery after severe weight loss, but there are popular non-surgical cellulite reduction procedures recommended for particular target areas such as mesotherapy and Lipodissolve™. Mesotherapy involves the stimulation of the middle layer of the skin (called the mesoderm) through injections made of vitamins, homeopathic medications and pharmaceuticals. These formulations cause the fat to be broken down and naturally flushed out of the body. Lipodissolve™ is pretty similar to mesotherapy’s approach —the only difference is that Lipodissolve™ uses a more concentrated formulation. Most patients who undergo mesotherapy advance to Lipodissolve™ for even better results.
